Women in Wellies

Wee House Company Founder, Jennifer Higgins was delighted to be invited to the Royal Highland Educational Trust ‘Women in Wellies’ event at Dumfries House yesterday.

The event was designed to inspire girls and young women to pursue careers in rural and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields.

Female S3 pupils from Auchinleck, Doon and Cumnock Academy were all invited to attend and heard from a wide variety of female professionals working in a range of jobs.

Only 3% of Construction Modern Apprenticeships are currently taken up by women and Jennifer is passionate about making the industry more gender-equal.

Jennifer said, “It was great to meet these keen young women and hear their future career plans.  It’s so important that we encourage them to keep working hard and never give up on trying to reach their goals.”
