Incredible pre-fab homes take just three weeks to build and start at £54,000… but you’ll need to buy the land first

The Wee House Company is the brainchild of 25-year-old Scottish entrepreneur Jennifer Hope.

She set up the company in 2014 with help from her father Ian, who has been working in the construction industry for more than 25 years.

The homes are available as studio, one-bed and two-bed properties and are fully customisable.

They are constructed as modular timber units at a manufacturing base in Ayrshire and then transported to the customer’s plot of land for final installation.

Ms Hope says the cosy homes are popular with landowners who use them as holiday lets and families who want to keep elderly parents close by but still give them their independence.

Parents also look into Wee Houses as an affordable first home for their children looking to get onto the property ladder.

The married University of Strathclyde graduate said:

‘They’re attractive-looking and people love the appearance and style of Wee Houses.

‘I think they also appeal because we offer an end-to-end service.

‘Self builds can be difficult, time-consuming and it’s hard to manage budgets.

‘Our aim is to be a one-stop shop for the entire process.’

The construction time of a Wee House is eight weeks – and just three weeks of that is spent on-site.

The firm has recently taken over another manufacturing site and can now work on five homes at any one time.

The company has so far built 16 properties throughout Scotland and has recently completed homes in Chelmsford and Norfolk.

A studio starts at £54,000, a one-bedroom home at £75,000 and a two-bedroom at £99,000.

The biggest seller is the two-bedroom model with an open plan living space.
