The Ayrshire Hospice identified a need for a unique setting where patients could spend quality time with family and friends during their time at the hospice; somewhere outwith but still close to the hospice building itself. A Wee House, located on site was the perfect solution, providing an idyllic, secluded environment for patients and their loved ones.
The Wee House Company, delighted to be involved in such a fantastic project, drew up plans incorporating an open plan living area with one bedroom, facing the beautiful gardens within the Ayrshire Hospice grounds. Due to being in a conservation area, the roof type had to be slate to tie in with neighbouring buildings and a sprinkler system had to be fitted on site as the house was too far back from the street to make use of the fire hydrants. To be respectful to patients and family members whilst re-erecting the Wee House on site at the hospice, operatives made use of manual tools where possible, rather than power tools, to avoid disruption.
Susan Campbell, In-Patient Unit Manager explains: “The Wee House provides a more innovative and creative way for the hospice to deliver essential care to patients and their families. By having the Wee House on hospice grounds, patients are able to get the care and support they need, whilst their families are able to access a private, tranquil place to take time out, whilst still having easy access to staff and remaining close to their loved ones”.
The Wee House is externally painted in Boathouse Blue and Ash White from the Dulux Heritage Range with the stunning decorative barge over the porch area. French doors lead from the living room and bedroom onto a patio area, a sun trap for the residents and their families to enjoy.
